This perpetual cycle of suffering is caused by karma, generated by humans’ ignorance and craving. A person is born ignorant of the true reality, generating karma, which continues the cycle in the next life (Alldritt 29). The concept of dependent co-arising parallels the illusionary nature of the Matrix. The people living in the Matrix are ignorant of the fact that the illusion of the Matrix is false reality. Their ignorance keeps them locked in the Matrix world, until they are informed of the truth.
